Farewell to Newy
Newy Louis Illal was Ashley's laptop that did most of her videos from 2015-mid 2020. It is expected that he made around 1,000 videos or more in his time in video creating and editing. In late August 2020, Newy said, "Goodbye". The laptop already had massive issues, but he decided to turn off and not come back.
Following Newy's passing, Ashley took to the internet to explain the situation of what happened between her and her laptop. She also said the sad truth about her video future:
"My second laptop, Newy, stopped working properly last week. I was able to get his information out into the new laptop. But... everything has changed. My video creating software is gone, and I can't download it cause they don't offer it anymore. So... my video style will be decreasing its uniqueness and lyrical approach. Plus, I'm going to have a very difficult time creating parodies/music since the same editing software helped with the production too. And let's not forget that I WON'T be able to create custom ringtones anymore, which means I'm going to lose my classics when I get a new phone. It breaks my heart to know I'm going to have double the work. Plus, it hurts to know that I'm going to lose myself. I never knew how important Newy was and his job. Now, I may never be able to turn him on again. So, I'm apologizing in advance... that my music and videos won't be 100% professional anymore. It breaks my heart to say it, but it's the only thing I can say. I'm very sorry."
Ashley has stated that almost every video, along with other works, was created through Windows 7 software Movie Maker. Yes, the program is a simple editor, but that's what she liked about it. She uses other programs, such as PowerDirector 13, to make her works more professional. But for the lyrical approach on her videos... she has always used Movie Maker. A few years ago, Windows did a way with the free software, which leaves her lost with her skills. Going with others advice, she tried using the Windows 10 Movie Maker, but "it's nothing like the classic version, and she doesn't like it whatsoever".
Following the tragic social media post, she started to think about all her videos, accomplishments, fans, and work that she has done since 2013. On September 2nd, 2020, Ashley uploaded a TikTok video that read "Last week... I said 'Goodbye' to a friend. I was going to give it all up. But I can't say 'Goodbye'. So, it'll take double the editing. I'm still here. I'll see you soon."
GivenAChance and Ashley are far from gone. But Newy will always live in our hearts forever.
Here's to a new chapter and era of videos!
